First Week of School

Hello, we meet again!  Please enjoy Jiejie's first week at school.
For the long weekend we fed ducks at Greenlake. We are saving for the ducks at the Public Gardens in Boston.
We took a trip to Bainbridge Island with Uncle Steve and Auntie Angela's family and celebrated Auntie Angela's birthday. We had a great time even with the candy store closed.
Cups tried on a pair of fun glasses.
Cups tucked in her shirt for the first time. In kindergarten it was okay for their shirts to hang out. I pointed out that Ava had her shirt out still, and Cups responded, "Don't mind."  I really like it when she says "don't mind" and "don't care" because nobody struggles then.

After Cups completed her Chinese homework, she asked to go biking on Alki. She learned to bike the long weekend before school started; she had a smooth transition from a glider to a bike.
A little piece of heaven - the seat of my shorts got wet sitting on the sandy steps.
We sneaked in a hot chocolate break after the second day of school. Cups discovered self-serve chocolate chips in a jar.
During Back to School the teacher showed us the work that they had done so far. I went back with the camera the next day. Cups was then there to provide the thinking behind her art. Her favorite story about Noah's Arc had animals in pairs. The one with long hair is Jesus, and the one next to him is Noah.
I was personally touched that she chose to draw about reading for the page on summer vacation. The teacher said, "I went around the room and wrote down what they did over the summer. They were all very sweet, and I hope they were all true." The teacher explained that at this age the kids have a tendency to make things up to impress their teachers.
They drew the elephant after listening to the story of the Six Blind Men. I asked Cups the reason for the pretty head band on the elephant. She responded, "The elephant is Indian."  Attention to details.
They made puppets of themselves out of brown paper bags. Cups wore hers for a picture.
We like our trips to the library a block away. On this day I almost did not make it home with this heavy bag.
Saturday morning we visited the neighborhood Barnes & Noble to listen to children's author, Paul Schmidt, read at story time. He drew for the kids, too. Cups enjoyed herself. We read a couple of his books over the summer. He was delighted to hear that his books are at the library.
Kids provide a great "excuse" to keep playing.
At an Italian festival Cups and Giovana got their faces and wrists painted. The girls also had a great time together all evening.
I am tickled pink that you are considering ordering magazines. Please support Jiejie's fundraiser.  Thank you!
